Personal contribution: Concept abstraction and application, space-planning, graphic renderings, and construction of final design process and programming booklet.

Purpose:

The purpose of this project was to redesign the Leon County Health Clinic in order to optimize its functionality and flow. Project scope including removing interior non-load bearing walls, redeveloping exterior walls and facade, and redesigning the space to meet the current needs of the health center's staff and patients.

Conceptualization:

The Leon County Health Clinic W.I.C. Department is a space for women and children to recieve help in a warm and nurturing atmosphere. Being inspired by the lifecycle of the Queen Alexandra’s Birdwing Butterfly, the design enables the ability to the evoke warmth and energy while still being soothing and soft. The design will display the rythymn of the caterpillar stage with its’ repetition in seating, windows, and wall treatments. The contrasting elements such as soft curved walls represent the butterfly in its’ mature stage. The Birdwing wil also be represented through natural colors and layered design features such as dropped ceilings and layered canopy panels in the corridors. Overall this design will create a balance of energy and relaxation through its’ contrasting warm and cool colors as well as its’ play on geometric and curvilinear lines, leaving the ocupants with the feeling of comfort and belonging.
